Easy Mai Tai Recipe

Here’s my go to recipe for a Mai Tai cocktail:

Ingredients:

  • 1 oz white rum
  • 1 oz dark rum
  • ½ oz orange curaçao
  • ½ oz almond syrup
  • ¾ oz fresh lime juice
  • ¼ oz simple syrup (optional, for extra sweetness)
  • Crushed ice
  • Mint sprig and lime wheel (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Mix the Ingredients:
    • In a cocktail shaker, combine the white rum, orange curaçao, orgeat syrup, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup (if using). Fill the shaker halfway with crushed ice.
  2. Shake Well:
    • Shake the mixture vigorously for about 10-15 seconds until well chilled.
  3. Pour:
    • Fill a glass (preferably a double old-fashioned glass or tiki mug) with crushed ice. Strain the shaken mixture into the glass over the ice.
  4. Top with Dark Rum:
    • Gently float the dark rum on top by pouring it slowly over the back of a spoon, so it layers on the surface of the drink.
  5. Garnish:
    • Garnish with a sprig of mint and a lime wheel for a classic tropical look.
