  • 1 egg
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Gravy Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth (low-sodium)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Salisbury Steak Instructions:

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Salisbury Steak Patties

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, mustard powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until everything is well combined. Shape the mixture into 4 patties, about ½ inch thick.

Step 2: Cook the Patties

Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add a bit of oil. Cook the Salisbury steak patties for about 5 minutes on each side until browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set them aside.

Step 3: Start the Gravy

In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour to create a roux. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, until the roux turns a light golden brown.

Step 4: Finish the Gravy

Slowly pour in the beef broth while whisking constantly to avoid lumps. Continue whisking until the mixture is smooth and begins to thicken. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and Dijon mustard (optional). Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Step 5: Serve

Return the Salisbury steak patties to the skillet and spoon the gravy over them. Simmer for another 2-3 minutes to let the flavors combine. Serve hot over mashed potatoes or buttered noodles.
